Don’t forget to watch the videos on the site for tips on how to properly decorate certain rooms which have certain sizes. For example you don’t want to fill a small room with too much pattern and boldness because it will make the, already small room, appear even smaller. You also don’t want large pieces of furniture to crowd the are and leave no floor space. The more floor space the more open a room feels.

As for larger rooms make sure you have a signature wall. A wall that is brighter and bolder than the other walls. This wall could showcase something like nice plasma or lcd tv that you can hang on the wall or maybe a beautiful piece of art. In larger rooms play with the space a little and maybe don’t set it up in a traditional way but make the room user friendly.

So tomorrow is the big day of love, for those who celebrate it. Valentines Day brings love and warmth to many couples out there but what does it bring to the house? We all know people who decorate for every holiday, season, or any time to celebrate, are you one of those people?

I have been in many a house that with each holiday has a new theme going through it. What would you do to decorate the Dream Home to celebrate each holiday? Would you go over the top or would you keep it to subtle notes like different coloured candles?

Today I am going to write about the probability of not winning. What  happens when your head is full of all these ideas of a new home and new floors, new everything! Well why not apply those ideas to the home you have.

I think that sometimes we sort of get dragged down by the everyday same stuff. We wake up it all looks the same and it has looked that way for years. Well guys and gals time to give your nest a spiffy new look! You would be amazed at what a little paint could do to any space you live in. Maybe you could have a spring clean adn get rid of lots of useless stuff in your house then go out and maybe buy a few new and trendy things to put in the house to make the space a little more current and upbeat.

Not everyone can afford to put thousands into a place but you’d be surprised at what a couple hundred could do to your house, apartment whatever you live in we all need a spruce up on occassion.

Well getting down to the wire here for the HGTV Dream Home contest.

This home has been built in Sonoma County California. For many people this a dreamy place to live to go along with a dreamy house. But to a lot of people this isn’t what they would want for their dream. Some people aren’t into the country vineyard vibe that this area of California has to offer. A lot of people do not want a house that is country modern style with old farm like charm.

What is your idea of the dream area of, not only the USA, but the world. If you could build a house anywhere, and I mean anywhere, where would you have it built?

Is your dream home somewhere warm where winter weather doesn’t even have a say, like Brazil.  Is it somewhere where there has been a lot of culture and style implemented in soiciety, like Paris or London. Or is it some place rustic and old world like Greece or Italy.

There are so many areas of the world that have so much more to offer than just staying in North America. SO where would your Dream Home exist?

So many ask, if I win and move into this luxurious house with luxurious surroundings, how am I going to meet new people and make long lasting friendships?

Well there are some places in Sonoma that the locals cannot live without and are definate places for you to meet new people and make great friendships.

The first one is called The Plaza. This is the largest town square in California and plays host to festivals, the market, bands who play frequently from spring to fall. There are duck ponds and childrens play grounds so parents can take a seat on a park bench and enjoy a latte or a glass of wine while they watch their kids play.

Now if you’ve gone and done that make sure you go to the Tuesday night farmers market where pretty much everyone comes to mingle and shop. Also in the area is Murphy’s Pub which is a very popular watering hole. If you need another aspect of friendship join a local group like the Sonoma Museum of Art or the film society. These are sure-fire ways to meet your new friends.

Now on to the children. If you are moving there with your brood make sure to visit Train Town. This is a great place for kids to go and take a ride on a scale steam train. The rain takes them through mini water falls, through a 10 acre forest. There are full size train cars to play in an a ferris wheel and a petting zoo for each of your children to enjoy.

The destination for lovers of food and wine.

Are you really into your wines and fine foods? Well Sonoma is definately the place for you. The area is literally a giant vineyard and you can have your pick of what kind of wine you want. With major celebrity labels hosting their own version of wine luxury you can be picky when living in an area like this. You will also be getting the finest and freshest flavours because you only have to walk or drive a few miles to get a bottle right from the source!

Now on to food. This area of the world also hosts various farms that grow all your local produce, create fine cheeses and raise livestock so you have access to the freshest picks and freshest cuts out there. No more everyday grocery stores, now you get to rub elbows with famous names in your local village market.

Now the winner of the Dream Home will be living in a very beautiful neighborhood but I would like to tell you a bit about the 5 other major neighborhoods in the area that house hollywood names.

Armstrong Estates – houses here fetch in the north end of $2 million. Here the houses are beautiful craftsman style with large front porches. The neighborhood exudes safety in times where children can ride their bikes and play safely in the street.

Historic Overlay Zone – this area has restrictive zoning to keep the old and traditional Sonoma still alive. This area is studded with stately heritage trees and deep lots with beautiful victorian style homes.

Lovall Valley Road – an area riddled with “ranchettes’ and people owning property of 10,000 acres or more. Most people on this stretch of road are in some sort of agricultural business like vineyards and often have barns and livestock. If you live here you have big big bucks to spend because the property is worth millions.

The Springs – funky, ethnic, run down but on the way up nieghborhood. This place has affordable living with a hispanic taste. Modest bungalows and cottages dot this area. Snatching realestate in this area is definately a good idea because the neighborhood is relatively cheap right now, but definately not for long.

Glen Ellen- last but not least this is the sunny, laid back and relazing neighborhood of Glen Ellen. Glen Ellen also hosts Doobie Brothers manager B.R. Cohn, his award-winning winery and annual for-charity rock concerts. Downtown Glen Ellen has a market to die for and big names surrounding you. Lots of winery’s owned by major musicians like Rich Little surround this area. This is definately the “hip” area of Sonoma.

All About Sonoma.

I know I have done a previous post on the area but this will be about living in Sonoma. Sonoma actually has a lot more to offer than just a relaxing lifestyle. Now Sonoma is actually ony 40 miles north of SanFransisco, which is one huge meca and hub of California, so even if you do enjoy the relaxed lifestyle of your house you can always venture not to far for some beaches and some excitement. Sonoma only has a population of about 10,000 people so it really holds its small town vibe and you can really feel how close knit the community is. The area of Sonoma is also a home to a lot of different wildlife species including wild salmon, otters and beavers.

Now, there are some terms that may help you when you move to Sonoma. These terms are pretty much only used by Sonoman’s and people living around it. Also there are areas of Sonoma that only locals know about. Here are some.

Slownoma – The term teens use to describe the social scene.

The Platt – is an area that only the locals know about. It is an area where generations of kids have gone and rearranged small stones to create a geometric stone maze.
